A document outlining all accommodation options and available venues is available electronically, on request.

A variety of accommodation is available within walking distance of the Medical School and s sHospital.  Most of this is booked up from one year to another by the Course Administrator (Jenny Hurley), and is offered at discounted prices to course participants. Please book all accommodation through Jenny and please also let Jenny know if you have any special accommodation needs, or dietary/religious food requirements.

Some student hostels have “flats” (accommodation for short-term guests), with hostel meals available to the occupants. (Standard student rooms at university hostels are seldom available, so we do not offer them as a regular option.) For instance:

Some excellent accommodation is provided in private homes, within walking distance of the course venue. These usually supply breakfast and evening meal and some have private facilities. Prices range from $NZ310-350 per week, depending on size of room and ensuite facilities.

There are also fully self-contained apartments, one-bedroom about $NZ525 per week and two-bedroom, $NZ600 per week. Everything is provided except food and these units are within a ten-minute walk from the course venue.

Studio rooms with en suite range from $NZ55-$NZ100 per night.

Accommodation at local hostels only becomes available if students withdraw during the academic year. The cost is about $350 per week, including all meals. Some hostels are up to a 20-minute walk from the course venue.

Other accommodation may become available during the year.

The area contains a number of restaurants and cafes offering local and international (mostly Asiatic) cuisine. Cheap meals are available at the hospital café and at The Hunter Centre (cnr Great King St. and Frederick St.). There are two large supermarkets close to the Medical School.

Accommodation Deposit
A deposit of $350 is payable on registering for the course if Jenny arranges accommodation. This is credited towards the final cost of the accommodation.  Those who arrange their own private accommodation in Dunedin should provide Jenny with the address and telephone number, so that they can be contacted during the course if necessary.

Applicants should be aware that not all places of accommodation have free or unlimited access to the Internet. If bringing laptops, candidates can purchase a monthly internet package from a New Zealand Internet Server Provider for about $NZ30 per month. Even though unlimited access and use can be gained via a 'free phone number', hotels and motels will charge over this and charges can be up to $NZ60 per day. Some establishments provide wireless internet connection (about $NZ5 per day).

On arriving in Dunedin candidates may have their personal laptops registered and reconfigured for use within the University network.

Those attending the Course are provided with Internet access via the University Computer Laboratories. The charge for this is included in the Course fee. Those on the Course are issued with a username and password, and also a security door swipe card for access after hours to the computer labs.
